Twenty-five (25) semester hours in addition to the General Education requirements, and must include the following:
- Liberal Arts History (9 hours) - Students must select one course from each of the following areas; Art, Theater, and English. Course selections must be from the following list:
- Foreign Language (6 hours)
- Liberal Arts Electives (10 hours)
Minor (18-24 hours)
Any university approved minor degree may be used to fulfill this requirement. Students will be required to complete all course work for an approved minor, but must have a minimum of 18 hours.
Note: The major program is just one component of a baccalaureate degree.
Attendance Requirement
Students declared as Bachelor of Arts in Music majors will be required to attend 14 programs each semester with the following stipulations:
- Four of these programs must be MAS (Musical Arts Series) programs.
- Two of the programs must be programs presented in the areas of Visual Art, Literature, and Theater. In the course of passing four semesters of MUS 1400, students must attend a minimum of one event in each of these subject areas.
- The remaining programs needed to meet the 1400 concert requirement may be chosen from any of the remaining programs on the MUS 1400 Recital list.
- Programs for which 1400 blue slips are not available, students MUST turn in a program from the event, or written notification from the faculty director of the event stating that programs were unavailable, and that the students was indeed in attendance. Written notification must be presented by 12:00 NOON the day following the program (or Monday if the program was presented during the weekend). No programs will be accepted after that time.
Written Requirement
- Students will be required to provide a written critique/observation of a minimum of two non-music programs they attend in each semester. These events can be chosen from the areas of Theater, Visual Arts, and Literature.
- Each paper will be a minimum of two pages, typed, and double spaced using standard 12-point font.
- In the course of passing four semesters of MUS 1400, students must write a critique/observation for a minimum of one event in each of the subject areas of Visual Arts, Theater, and Literature. Failure to do so will result in a grade of "incomplete" in MUS 1400 until the student passes this requirement.
- The critique/observations will be evaluated by faculty in the department from which the program is presented then returned to the student.
