Whether you are an instrumentalist, vocalist, or pianist, there is a myriad of performance opportunities in a multitude of ensembles for the Music Major and non-major alike at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Instrumentally, Southeastern features more varieties of ensembles than any other regional university in the state of Oklahoma. In the fall, students have the chance to perform in the SOSU Marching Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, and Low Brass Ensemble. In the spring, students can perform with the elite Symphonic Band or the more informal Concert Band. Throughout the year students may perform with the internationally recognized Jazz Ensemble, which toured the People’s Republic of China in Spring 2001, and the Percussion Ensemble, which is on the cutting edge of small ensemble programming. The SOSU Pep Band is also an option in late Fall and early Spring for those who wish to support the basketball teams.

Vocally, you have the opportunity to participate in an assortment of groups including the Southeastern Symphonic Choir, Southeastern Chorale, and Women’s Chorus. An added specialty in the choral area is the Opera Theatre which performs scenes and acts from standard operatic literature, a dinner theatre, and a children’s opera for thousands of area school children.

There are also many opportunities for trio and quartet performances in the Texoma area in both classical and jazz venues. Many of these functions can help with University expenses. The Music Department also teams with the Department of Communication and Theatre in an assortment of musical productions.

If you have actively participated in high school ensembles and want to continue your growth as a musician in such organizations, or if you feel you are qualified to participate, there is a wide range of performing ensembles to choose from at SOSU.
