We are trying to get the word out to our former students about the scholarship opportunities now available for students majoring in one of the programs in the Department of Behavioral Sciences. Within the department there are several programs: at the undergraduate level, we have majors in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology. Additionally, minors are available in Native American Studies and Social Gerontology. At the graduate level, we offer degrees in Counseling Psychology and School Counseling. We are sending this to you to give you the opportunity to help fund any of these scholarships which interest you. Donations in any amount can be sent to the “Southeastern Foundation.” Please circle the name of the scholarship to which you’d like to donate. The Undergraduate Psychology Research Award. This award is given out to an undergraduate student majoring in Psychology who has distinguished her or himself as a scholar. This scholarship was established by faculty member Dr. Wayne Dixon.

 

The Graduate Counseling Psychology Merit Award. This award is given out to a graduate student majoring in Counseling Psychology who has distinguished her or himself as a promising professional in the delivery of competent and compassionate mental health care. This scholarship was established by faculty member Dr. Charla Hall

 

The G. Pat Powers Psychology & Counseling Scholarship. This award will be given to a student majoring in Psychology or Counseling who has distinguished her or himself as a promising professional in the field of psychology and counseling. This Endowed Scholarship was established by Mr. John Williams in honor of Dr. Powers who retired in 2003 after 41 years at Southeastern.

 

The Billie Yeager Outstanding Student in School Counseling Award. This award is given out one to two times a year to a graduate student majoring in School Counseling who has distinguished her or himself through exhibiting a positive attitude about students and thus shows great promise as a professional in the field of school counseling. This Endowed Scholarship was established by faculty member and Department Chair, Dr. Jon K. Reid in memory of his beloved aunt Ms. Billie Yeager who dearly loved working with students as a classroom teacher, coach, and school counselor in Nocona, Texas and as a school counselor in Muenster, Texas.

 

The Outstanding Student in Criminal Justice Award. This award is given out one to two times a year to an undergraduate student majoring in Criminal Justice who has distinguished him or herself as both a scholar and a person of integrity, exhibiting a positive potential for a career in the Criminal Justice field. This scholarship was established by COPS Program Director Curtis Purintun, J.D.

 

The Outstanding Qualitative Research Award and Scholarship. This award is given out once annually to a graduate student majoring in Counseling Psychology, who has selected the thesis option as partial fulfillment of their graduate degree, and has an interest in pursuing qualitative research which will be included as the major focus in the dissertation. This scholarship was established by faculty member Dr. Dick Butcher.

 

The Outstanding Student in Social Gerontology Award. This award is given out annually to an undergraduate student minoring in Social Gerontology who has distinguished her or himself as a promising scholar in the field. This scholarship was established by faculty member Dr. James Knapp.

 

The Outstanding Student in Sociology Award. This award is given out one to two times a year to an undergraduate student majoring in Sociology who has distinguished her or himself as a promising scholar in the field of Sociology.
