Department of Educational Instruction & Leadership
Welcome to the Department of Educational Instruction & Leadership (EIL). EIL was formed in 1996, when the Department of Elementary Education and the Department of Professional Education were combined, and its primary function is to prepare teachers, administrators and counselors for the public schools of southeastern Oklahoma. We also serve a growing clientele of public schools in northern Texas. The Elementary Education undergraduate program is the largest undergraduate program at SOSU, and the School Administration graduate program is the largest graduate program. The faculty of this department is both proud of that fact and humbled by it.
EIL is looking forward to some real challenges this year, 2004–2005. We are now offering our Elementary Education program at the Ardmore Higher Education Center and are exploring the prospect of offering it at the McCurtain County Higher Education Center as well. In addition, two cohorts of teachers have just completed a Master of Education degree in the area of Reading at McCurtain County Higher Education Center. These groups showed amazing dedication as they completed the 33–hour program in just thirteen months. Another group of teachers has begun a similar effort as of August of 2004. The Department of Educational Instruction & Leadership is honored to lead Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the offering of needed programs at Higher Education Centers.
