IETV Technician

Telecommunications

The IETV Technician reports directly to the Director of Telecommunications. IETV Technician will be expected to manage the IETV Distance Learning classrooms and video conferences at SOSU. This will involve all operations dealing with Multi-Media facilities, faculty, staff and students.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Schedule IETV rooms for usage for each semester; Coordinate with the branch campus, higher education centers, and other universities and institutions throughout the state for transmit/receive site agreements; Diagnosis and repair IETV audio/video issues with each of our receive sites to ensure the best quality; Train faculty on operations of IETV equipment for delivery of classes; Facilitate PC software issues for faculty, staff and students presentations; Maintain and repair minor and major equipment failures in IETV classrooms; Must serve as a bench technician (i.e. replace power supplies in Polycom units, replace different channels on microphone mixers, etc); Make recommendations to Director for pricing and purchasing equipment; Maintain the Polycom Global Management System; Setup C-Band satellite conferences; Setup web casts and other live video events for viewing in multi-media rooms; Manage 3-5 student workers, give annual evaluations, and trains each on operations; Report to Director of Telecommunications on changes and upgrades to IETV classrooms; Recommend to Director of Telecommunications on what equipment needs there are for IETV classrooms; Technician does annual reports for IETV transmit and receive classes; Technician plays a small role in the Telecommunications office as a whole filling in when and where needed; Archive IETV classes as requested by faculty using Windows Media Encoder; Edit and archive classes; Coordinate with OneNet for special video broadcasts; Work with OneNet on troubleshooting video issues across the state; Install IETV equipment in classrooms; Manage software upgrades and programming of Polycom systems as needed.

Required

High school diploma or GED. Knowledge of and sensitivity to diversity issues related to effective communication and interactions with person from diverse cultural backgrounds and non-traditional students of all age ranges, social backgrounds, and experience level. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, supervisory, organizational and training skills. Interact with supervisors, employees, school personnel, parents, and the public to gain their cooperation and to establish working relationships. Apply problem-solving skills to resolve issues or concerns regarding distance education equipment and content delivery processes. Apply management practices, techniques, and methodologies, to assigned activities. Organize and present facts and opinions in presentations and written materials, such as reports.

Preferred

AMX and Crestron controller entry-level programming. Video Conference Room Design trained. Knowledge of geography, demographics, educational institutions and other public and private agencies within the state of Oklahoma. Experience overseeing, guiding, developing and assessing staff, and allocation and assignment of staff to meet department priorities and deadlines. Knowledge of procedures, operations and standard organizational structures and principles of higher education institutions. Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office 2000; MS Word, Excel Access, Internet, and electronic messaging. Knowledge of Internet communication and capabilities. Technical program knowledge and standard practices and procedures in the area of distance education technology.
