The Technical Services Assistant performs tasks involving supportive library and cataloging skills related to the processing of library materials and other functions in the Technical Services Department under the supervision of the Cataloging Librarian.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Share and perform the duties of processing library materials by being: Responsible for searching and downloading bibliographic records from OCLC (Online Computer Library Catalog); responsible for using the SIRSI (Library catalog database) system reports module for importing new authority records; share responsibility for the maintenance of records in the SIRSI database; responsible for maintenance of authority headings in the SIRSI database; assisting in the fiscal and online library catalog duties of withdrawing materials; assisting in the fiscal and online library catalog duties of preparing books to go to bindery; responsible for the fiscal and online library catalog duties of processing standing orders and duplicate materials; responsible for accessioning and maintaining records in Microsoft excel; responsible for the fiscal and online library catalog duties of re-classing materials. Duties also include: Responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment; assist with preparing materials and displays to promote use of the library; record data for all library materials as needed; perform other related duties as requested by the Technical Services Librarian; share responsibility for updating all loose leaf binders (Library of Congress Rules, Subject Headings, Cataloging Concepts, Authority Rules and Headings, etc.) pertinent to the Technical Services job duties; responsible for the fiscal and online library catalog duties of archival materials and collection; assist with circulation coordinator as needed.

Required: Two years college or relative experience. Knowledge of computer systems and operations. Become proficient with SIRSI. Ability to prioritize multiple job responsibilities. Ability to work with other staff in a team environment. Ability to complete detail-oriented procedures accurately and efficiently. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

PREFERRED: Maintain Continuing Education Credits from a Library Services Consortium. For example: Amigos Library Services, OLA or SIRSI. CEU credits for certification should be obtained within three years of beginning service. Bachelors Degree; experience working in a library with OCLC and SIRSI.
