2008 Summer Application
If you want to be considered for financial aid for summer please sign and return the application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.
PLUS Loan Questionnaire
If you receive a PLUS loan, you are required to complete this form and return it to the SOSU Financial Aid office.
Dependent vs. Independent 2008 – 2009
The federal guidelines listed below for the 2008 – 2009 year determine if you are a dependent or independent student.
If you (the student) answer “NO” to every question listed below you are considered a dependent student.
- Were you born before January 1, 1985?
- At the beginning of the 2008–2009 school year, will you be working on a master's or doctorate program (such as an MA, MBA, MD, JD, PhD, EdD, or graduate certificate, etc.)?
- As of today, are you married? (Answer “YES” if you are separated but not divorced.)
- Do you have children who receive more than half of their support from you?
- Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2009?
- Are both of your parents deceased, or are you (or were you until age 18) a ward/dependent of the court?
- Are you currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
(Answer "Yes" if you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or are a National Guard or Reserves enlistee who is on active duty for other than state or training purposes.
(Answer "No" if you are a National Guard or Reserves enlistee who is on active duty for state or training purposes.
- Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
(Answer "No" (you are not a veteran) if you:
- have never engaged in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces,
- are currently an ROTC student or a cadet or midshipman at a service academy, or
- are a National Guard or Reserves enlistee activated only for training. Also answer “No” if you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and will continue to serve through June 30, 2009.)
(Answer “Yes” (you are a veteran) if you:
- have engaged in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) or as a member of the National Guard or Reserves who was called to active duty for purposes other than training, or were a cadet or midshipman at one of the service academies, and
- were released under a condition other than dishonorable. Also answer "Yes" if you are not a veteran now but will be one by June 30, 2009.
Financial Aid Forms for 2008 – 2009
Every year the Department of Education randomly selects students for a process called verification. You may need to complete the forms listed below if you were selected. You may contact the financial aid office to confirm that you are submitting the correct forms for the 2008 – 2009 year.
