Welcome to the new student loan on-line application process!  Student Financial Aid Services is excited to provide you with this service.  We continually strive to improve the financial aid process for our students and believe the on-line application is the most efficient way for you to apply for your Stafford Loan.  This service is for new borrowers only.  If you have previously borrowed a Stafford Loan while attending SOSU, you will not need to complete another Master Promissory Note unless you are changing lenders.

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE INTENDED FOR FIRST-TIME BORROWERS AT SOSU WHO HAVE ALREADY:

1. Filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    
2. Complete the FAFSA  file in the Student Financial Aid Office; including Choosing a Lender.
    
3. Returned your SOSU Financial Aid Award Letter showing that you accept a Stafford Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan.
    
4. Complete Entrance Counseling for processing to be continued.
    
5. Received from the Oklahoma Guaranteed Student Loan Program a notification that your Stafford Loan Application (a Master Promissory Note or MPN) is ready for you to complete on the Web.
    

If you have not already completed the above five steps STOP!  You must have completed the above steps before you can begin the on-line loan application process.

Once you are ready to complete your on-line loan application, the following instructions may be of help to you.  You may print them out to follow as your complete your on-line application.  If you have any questions about the on-line process, please feel free to call the Financial Aid Office at 580-745-2186.  FYI: The On-Line Loan Application is best viewed using Internet Explorer 4.0 and above.

• Click the "Begin On-Line Application" link; if you are a first time user you will need to create a new account.

• After clicking on the "Create new Account" link, the next page displays the OpenNet Terms of Service.  You must click "I Accept" to proceed.

• Click the "Begin the On-line Application" link and then click on the "Complete Existing Application" link.

• Select "Start the Application Process".

• Next, select "New Federal Stafford promissory note (MPN)"

• Your MPN will have some information already entered.  Please read this information and correct if necessary.

• You must provide two adult references with different United State addresses and your first reference should be a parent (if living), a legal guardian, or adult relative with whom you will always remain in contact.  All requested items must be complete including telephone number or your loan(s) will be delayed.

• Click on the "Next Page" link to continue or "Save for Later" if you choose to complete your application at a later time.

• The Review application information will be displayed, please review your information before selecting "Submit Application".  Any errors or missing information will delay your loan payments (disbursements).

• After you select "Submit Application", you will be given the option of signing your MPN with an "Electronic Signature".  Signing your MPN electronically eliminates the need to print and mail the MPN and expedites the disbursement process.  Skip the next step if you will not be signing electronically.

• Select "E-Sign" to submit your electronic signature after reviewing and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions of the promissory note (MPN).  Then select "Yes, I choose to complete the e-signature process" and enter your last name, first name, and select "Next".  If you have successfully completed your MPN on-line you will see the message "Thank You for Applying On-Line."

• Should you not choose to sign electronically you may print the MPN by selecting "Yes" or select "No" to have the guarantee agency (OGSLP) mail a MPN to you.
