Freshman Admission Requirements
You are considered a first-term
freshman if you...
- have recently or will graduate from
high school before beginning college
OR
- have a GED and your high school
class has graduated.
- have never attended college elsewhere
(except as a high school concurrent
student).
- are less than 21 years old.
Then to be admitted, you must...
- have taken the ACT, or SAT
- have at least an ACT composite of
20 or SAT of 940.
OR
- have a GPA of 2.7 from a state-accredited
high school AND rank in the upper 50%
of your graduating class.
OR
- have a GPA of 2.7 from a state-accredited
high school in the 15 required curricular
units listed below.
Also, you must meet the following
curricular requirements. If you
don't meet these requirements, you may
still be admissible but may have to
take
College Placement Tests and/or
remedial courses in the areas that you
are deficient.
- 4 years of English (or an ACT English
of 19 or an SAT Verbal of 460)
- 3 years of Math (or an ACT Math
of 19 or an SAT Math of 460)
- 3 years of History and Citizenship
skills (or an ACT Reading of 19 or an
SAT Verbal of 460)
- 2 years of Lab Science (or an ACT
Science of 19 or an SOSU Science CPT)
- 3 additional years or units of foreign
language, computer science, or any of
the above listed subjects.
* Students are requred to
participate in
College Placement Tests if he/she
has the following subscores on the ACT
or SAT:
- ACT in English below 19; SAT
Verbal below 460
- ACT in Math below 19; SAT
Quantitative below 460
- ACT in Reading below 19; SAT
Verbal below 460
- ACT in Science Reasoning below 19;
no SAT equivalent exists
(Institutional Science Test Required)
NOTE: Even if you don't meet
these requirements, SOSU has several
alternative admission programs.
