MATH 0114
Elementary Algebra
(Course Overview)

Required textbook:  Developmental Mathematics, Bittinger and Beecher, Sixth Edition

Welcome to the Learning Center.  The Center's hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This math class meets every day at your scheduled time.  Due to the nature of the course, attendance is necessary in order to obtain a passing grade.  Perfect attendance counts as one 100 point exam score.  Each absence lowers this exam score by 5 points!  Please note that attendance will be taken every day.  In addition to this score, there are seven 100-point supervised exams.  You must have a 70% average on the seven 100-point supervised exams in order to take the comprehensive exam.

The following will be used to evaluate your achievement for this class:

1 - Attendance score
7 - Supervised Chapter Tests
1 -Comprehensive Exam (70% or better)
1 - Skills Test (90% or better)
1 - Factoring Test (87% or better)
1 - CPT (50th percentile or better)

You may attempt each exam 2 times on or before the next scheduled test for the course. Failure to take or retake a test within the given time frame will result in a zero as a grade for that test.

There will be problems assigned as homework problems.  This homework must be turned in before you will be allowed to take a test.  These problems are assigned to help you better understand the material that is covered during lecture and help you prepare for tests.

If you are having trouble with your work, we have video tapes, audio tapes, and tutors.  All are free of charge.  We are here to help and assist you, but you must let us know your needs.
