MATH 0123
Intermediate Algebra

(Course Overview)

Required textbook:  Intermediate Algebra, Bittinger, Tenth Edition

Welcome to the Learning Center.  The Center's hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This math class meets either MWF or TTh at your scheduled time.  Due to the nature of the course, attendance is necessary in order to obtain a passing grade.  Attendance is taken every day.  In addition to this score, there are five 100-point supervised exams.  You must have a 70% average on these five items in order to take the comprehensive exam.

The following will be used to evaluate your achievement for this class:

5 - Supervised Chapter Tests
1 -Comprehensive Exam (70% or better)
1 - Integers (Skills) Test (90% or better)
1 - Factoring Test (87% or better)
1 - CPT (50th percentile or better)

You may attempt each exam 2 times within one week.  Failure to take or retake a test within the given time frame will result in a zero as a grade for that test or the highest score recorded before the deadline date.   A student may replace his/her lowest test score (excluding test 4) with the homework average if it is higher than the lowest test score.

There will be problems assigned as homework problems.  This homework must be turned in before you will be allowed to take a test.  These problems are assigned to help you better understand the material that is covered during lecture and help you prepare for tests.

If you are having trouble with your work, we have video tapes, audio tapes, and tutors.  All are free of charge.  We are here to help and assist you, but you must let us know your needs.
