SOSU Celebrates Holiday Season With Candlelighting 2005
Press Release Date: 11-22-2005
In keeping with tradition, Southeastern Oklahoma State University will mark the holiday season with its annual Candlelighting event. The 84th Annual Candlelighting and Concert will take place at Montgomery Auditorium on campus on Monday, December 5th. The event begins at 7:30 PM and is free and open to the public. This year’s concert will feature Christmas music from the British Isles performed by the SOSU Department of Fine Arts Ensembles. Performing groups include the Southeastern Symphonic Choir and Southeastern Chorale under the direction of Stacy Weger, and the SOSU Brass Ensemble under the direction of Michael Miles.
Featured vocalists include Steven Emge, Dane Cunningham, Cynthia McGough, Mark Monteith, and Sara Tanner. Mary Ann Craige will serve as organist. Music will include Christmas choral standards such as Vaughan Williams “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” and Holst’s “Christmas Day”, as well as more traditional selections. The SOSU Brass Ensemble will be providing a series of fanfares for the occasion, as well as the processional music to light the candles. This joyous night of song will provide audience members the opportunity to participate as well, with a carol sing–along included. Cardinal Key and Blue Key Honor Societies will once again serve as acolytes in the candle lighting portion of the evening. We invite you to kick off the holidays by sharing the music of the season with us. For more information call 745–2088, or 745–2222.
