Press Release Date: 03-04-2005
Southeastern Oklahoma State University president Dr. Glen D. Johnson has been named the Oklahoma Academic Advising Association (OACADA) Administrator of the Year. President Johnson accepted the award March 4 at the National Academic Advising Association Region 7 Conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Oklahoma City.
“This award reflects the outstanding work that is being done by our Academic Advising and Outreach Center (AAOC) and Enrollment Management offices to assist students in achieving academic success at Southeastern”, said President Johnson. “As an institution, we will continue to look for innovative methods to better serve the needs of our students. I am truly honored to receive this award.”
“President Johnson is extremely deserving of this recognition”, said Tim Boatmun, director of the AAOC at Southeastern. “As a result of his leadership and vision, Southeastern has developed a model advising system for incoming students that is quickly becoming a template for other institutions across the region and nation. This award demonstrates President Johnson’s strong commitment to student success.”
A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he received his undergraduate and Law degree. President Johnson was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1982. In 1990, he was elected Speaker of the House, and at that time, was the youngest person in the United States to hold that office.
President Johnson holds memberships in numerous professional, state, and national organizations and has been the recipient of many awards and honors during his career.
He currently serves on the American Association of State Colleges and Universities National Board of Directors; is chairman of the Council of Presidents for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education; is a member of the Oklahoma State Fair Board; and is a member of the board of directors of the Oklahoma Heritage Association.
The Southeastern AAOC staff presented its model at the Region 7 conference and has been asked to make a presentation at the Noel-Levitz conference at Washington D.C. in July. President Johnson and Dr. Jeff Hale, assistant vice president for enrollment management and marketing, will present a program at the Noel-Levitz conference about strategic planning and its role in creating the AAOC.
