Sharon Morrison has been appointed Director of the Henry G. Bennett Memorial Library at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Morrison has served as Interim Library Director since January 2004.

Morrison earned a bachelor’s degree at Houston Baptist University, a master’s in library science at Sam Houston State University and has done post-graduate work at Texas A&M at Prairie View. She has been at Southeastern for four years, serving as reference and instruction librarian until her appointment as interim library director.

Prior to joining SOSU, Morrison had 20 years of experience as a librarian in a variety of capacities, primarily in library administration. She served as an accreditation library consultant for a private school in Houston and also as a project manager for an independent school district–wide library automation project, which included 35 schools and more than 3 million records converted.

“Ms. Morrison is a valuable member of the Southeastern team,” said SOSU President Dr. Glen D. Johnson. “She is energetic in her approach to her responsibilities as Library Director, and she brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position. We look forward to her continued contributions to the University.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to work at Southeastern as Library Director,” Morrison said. “The library’s primary goal for the coming year will be to continue to provide service to the university community. Additionally, the library will focus on Collection Development Analysis with emphasis on accreditation and assessment.”

Morrison said that she is also proud of the library’s extensive Native American collection, which includes extensive primary documents. Additions are made to collection on an annual basis, she added.
