Southeastern At Grayson Program Continues With Second Cohort

Press Release Date: 10-18-2005

The Southeastern at Grayson program is continuing to grow with the announcement that a second cohort group will be added for the spring 2006 semester, and enrollment is now underway.

Beginning this fall, students have had the opportunity to earn a degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University without, in many cases, ever having to leave the Grayson County College campus in Denison, Texas.

Thanks to this unique collaboration between the two schools, students at the GCC main campus in Denison now have access to a 4–year degree in Elementary Education.

The courses are taught on–site at Grayson by SOSU instructors and adjunct instructors.

Because the program is in its beginning stages, enrollment is limited to the first 30 students who are accepted for admission into the Elementary Education Cohort II. Cohort I, which started classes this fall, will continue with its sequence of courses this spring. A cohort is defined as a group of students who progress through the program together.

This collaborative effort received approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Grayson County College Board of Trustees, the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

SOSU and GCC officials have been working together on this project for almost five years.

Representatives from the SOSU offices of admissions, financial aid, and registrar, will hold an Information Day for anyone interested in the program on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. in room 101 of the Language Arts Building at Grayson.
