Southeastern Selects New Fight Song

Press Release Date: 08-28-2006

The Southeastern Savage Storm and their fans have a new fight song.

“Savage Storm Fight Song,” composed by Jeff Lankov of Dallas, was chosen from among 26 entries submitted to the 10-member SOSU Fight Song Committee. The committee narrowed the original list down to six, and then recommended three finalists for consideration to Southeastern President Dr. Glen D. Johnson. The Lankov composition was the top choice of the committee, and he will receive $1,000 for submitting the winning song.

“We are excited about having our new fight song ready for the start of the fall athletic season,” President Johnson said. “The quality of the fight songs submitted for consideration was most impressive. With our new fight song and new athletics logo, we look forward to building upon our great athletic tradition at Southeastern.”

SOSU officials unveiled the new athletics logo on Aug. 15.

Lankov is a pianist and musical director, active in both classical and popular styles. He received his formal training at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and Interlochen Arts Academy. Lankov is currently Artist-In-Residence at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Lankov has recorded The Piano Music of George Gershwin, with a second volume scheduled for release this year. He regularly performs in major entertainment venues throughout the United States and has appeared with artists such as Phyllis Diller, Joan Rivers, Johnny Mathis, and The Platters.

Lankov has recently served as Musical Director for productions by Radio City Music Hall, Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Theater Center and a thousand performances of Forever Plaid, the longest-running show in Dallas/Fort Worth history. He recently had the premiere of his new show, “Love Is Here To Stay: A George Gershwin Revue” at the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival.
