SOSU Flight Team Advances to National Competition
Press Release Date: 11-14-2006
Southeastern Oklahoma State University will have the only Oklahoma flight team in national competition next spring in Ohio.
SOSU’s Aviation Sciences Institute Flight team has returned from a week of competition at Kansas State University where it defeated teams from Kansas State, the University of Central Missouri, Parks College (Mo.), the University of Nebraska, Spartan College of Aeronautics (Oklahoma), and Oklahoma State University.
The 14-member flight team competition results were impressive as SOSU brought home eight trophies. Southeastern won the safety trophy for the third consecutive year and also was awarded the safety trophy at the 2006 national competition, which is a highly significant achievement.
“I am extremely proud of the dedication, had work and professionalism of our flight team,” said Dr. David Conway, Director of the SOSU’s Aviation Sciences Institute.
Competition includes nearly all facets of aviation, including computer accuracy, simulated comprehensive aircraft navigation, aircraft recognition, ground trainer, preflight, message drop, power-off landing, short-field landing, and navigation.
The national competition will host approximately 28 flight teams from across the nation with about 410 team members involved.
Southeastern’s award-winning flight team is led by faculty advisor Professor George Jacox.
Chris Ferguson captains the team with Paul Schad (Flying Events) and Steve Libick (Ground Events) serving as co-captains.
Jesse Thune is the secretary/treasurer and competitors are Anthony Fagan, Bradley Holcomb, Adam Krafcheck, James Lavender, Jordan McConnell, Joseph Myers, Zachary Shuster, Brody Turnage and Jason Bulleit.
