Top 10 Freshmen Honored at SOSU

Press Release Date: 11-15-2006

Each year, the Academic Advising and Outreach Center and Office of Freshman Programs at Southeastern Oklahoma State University recognize the Top 10 Freshmen from the previous year.

A committee representing Faculty Senate, Student Life and University staff selects the recipients based on academic achievement, campus involvement, leadership, and references from faculty.

The outstanding freshmen were honored at a Nov. 10 reception on campus hosted by President Dr. Glen D. Johnson, who was a Top 10 Freshman at the University of Oklahoma.. Regent John Massey, Chair of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and Regent Ann Holloway of the Regional University System of Oklahoma, also attended this fifth annual awards ceremony.

The overall grade-point average for the group was an outstanding 3.86 on a 4.0 scale. The students were first-time, full-time in the fall of 2005. The goal of this recognition program is to recognize the significant contributions first-year students can make on campus.

Director of the Academic Advising and Outreach Center Tim Boatmun said, “These 10 students were selected from more than 600 who began their college careers at SOSU in 2005. They are amazing young adults and we know they have incredible futures. We are very fortunate to have them on our campus and I am fortunate to work on a campus that truly values the first-year experience.”
