Southeastern Professor Receives Alpha Chi national award

Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Kenneth Chinn was one of only 10 individuals honored at the national convention of Alpha Chi, the national college honor society.
Chinn, Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Social Sciences, was given the Distinguished Service Award. He is a long-time sponsor of Alpha Chi’s Oklahoma Theta chapter at SOSU and a past officer of Region II.
The SOSU chapter was chartered in 1983 and Chinn served as assistant sponsor before becoming the lead sponsor in 1984. Approximately 1,100 SOSU students have been inducted into the chapter over the past 24 years.
Chinn began his Southeastern career in 1982 and served as Chair of the Department of Economics in the School of Business from 1994 until 2001.
He has served as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences from 2001 until the present. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Colorado State University.
Chinn was elected to honorary membership in Alpha Chi in 1994. He was president of Region II (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and East Texas) from 1994 to 1996. He has served as sponsor/executive secretary of the Oklahoma Theta chapter for more than 24 years, has chaired the Region II audit and scholarship committees many times and earned outstanding service awards from the national council in 1996 and 2007.
