DURANT, Okla. Southeastern Oklahoma State University's Symphonic Band will present its final concert of the spring at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Montgomery Auditorium.

This event is part of the Musical Arts Series. There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

The concert features Brian Balmages, an active composer, conductor, producer and performer from Baltimore, Maryland. His works for symphonic band, orchestra, and brass have been performed throughout the world and his active schedule of commissions includes the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, University of Miami Wind Ensemble, Dominion Brass, and others.

World premieres of his works have appeared in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall.

As a conductor, Balmages enjoys engagements with numerous honor bands, orchestras, university groups, and professional ensembles across the country. Notable guest-conducting appearances include the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, College Band Directors Regional Conference, Mid-Atlantic Wind Conductors Conference, and the Atlantic Classical Orchestra Brass Ensemble.

He has also served as Symphonic Band Director at Towson University in Maryland and is currently the Director of Instrumental Publications for The FJH Music Company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Under the baton of David Christy, Southeastern Director of Bands, the Symphonic Band will open the concert with "The Gallant Seventh" by John Philip Sousa. Other numbers include the third movement of the "Symphony in B flat" by Paul Hindemith; "Rhosymedre" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and Percy Grainger's "Children March."

After a brief intermission, Balmages will take the podium to conduct three of his works. He will begin with "Fusion" in three movements and continue with "Waves" and the third movement of "Symphonic Episodes."
