Bryan County

Bryan County, located in southeastern Oklahoma, is named for the famous orator William Jennings Bryan. The area was first settled by Choctaw Indians after their removal from Mississippi. The Indians established several schools in the area during the mid to late 1800s. One of the schools, the Armstrong Academy for Boys in Durant, later served as the capital of the Choctaw Nation. Bryan County contains 943 square miles with two major lakes and four major streams. The city of Durant is the county seat of Bryan County.
