provide insight as to how science works, how scientific advances are made, and
why scientific theories change
2. To help the student understand the metric
system, the periodic table and other tools of the scientist*
3. To explain the four areas of physical science
(physics, chemistry, astronomy, and earth science) so that the student can have
a better understanding of his/her world**
Grading System:
Evaluation Procedures
1. Unit
exams will be given at the end of each of the four units
Unit 1 (Chapters 1-8) Unit 3 (Chapters 16-18)

4. Homework
assignments will be made by the instructor.
A due date will be given at the time of the assignment. At the discretion of the instructor, some
homework assignments will be collected and graded. Collected homework must be handed in at
the beginning of the class period in which it is due for the student to
receive credit. No late homework
will be accepted.
5. Laboratory
is required for each student. A lab
manual needs to be purchased prior to the first lab period. The lab experience will make up 20% of the
total grade for the course. No make up labs.
