The Department of Physical Sciences is comprised of the
disciplines of biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science,
and physics. It offers undergraduate programs leading to
B.S. degrees in biotechnology, chemistry, environmental
science, medical technology, physics, and science education.
The objectives of this department are:
- to prepare students for scientific
career opportunities in industry and government;
- to provide students the pre-professional
training required for entrance into schools of medicine,
dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, nursing, physical
therapy, engineering, medical technology, pharmacy, and
allied public health fields;
- to prepare students to enter the
teaching profession in science education;
- to prepare students for graduate
study in biotechnology, chemistry, physics, and environmental
science.
The interested student is encouraged to participate in
a directed research experience as an integral part of the
science program. All students majoring in biotechnology,
chemistry, environmental science, science education, or
physics will be required to take a mid-level assessment
exam at the beginning of their junior year and the ETS Major
Field Achievement Examination (or comparable examination)
in their senior year.
