The function of the Distance Learning Council (DLC) will be to provide leadership in evaluating, reviewing, assessing, and developing the distance learning philosophy and curriculum. Any recommendations by the DLC concerning philosophy and policies of distance learning will be submitted to the Academic Council.
The DLC will work with the appropriate academic departments and/or administrative offices to ensure the continuation, assessment, quality, and evolution of the distance learning program. The DLC will review the results of distance learning assessment to determine if any modifications need to be made in the distance learning philosophy and curriculum and make recommendations, if necessary, to the appropriate departments/faculty.
The DLC will work with faculty and administration in determining and recommending which technology and training is necessary to implement and maintain courses and programs that will be delivered via distance learning.
The Distance Learning Council will be composed of eight tenure-track faculty members, one student, the Director of Continuing Education and the Director of Distance Learning. The Director of Distance Learning, who must hold faculty rank, will serve as the chairperson. The Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs/Chief Information Officer/Information Technology, the Director of the Center for Instructional Development and Technologies, the Director of General Education, and the Director of Assessment will be ex officio members.
There will be two faculty member from the School of Business, two from the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and four from the School of Arts and Sciences. There can be no more than one member per academic department.
The faculty members, who must have taught distance learning courses for at least two semesters during the last two years preceding their selection, will be selected by the Dean of the respective school in consultation with the Director of Distance Learning for three-year staggered terms. Initially, there will be two member appointed for a one year term, two member appointed for a two year term, and four members for three year terms. Thereafter, all terms will be for three years.
The student member must have had a least one distance learning course, be of junior/senior standing, and will be appointed by the Distance Learning Council.
