The first item called to order was the approval of minutes from the previous meeting. Dr. McArthur made the first motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Dr. Debra Haley, which passed unanimously.

The second item brought before the committee was the approval of three nominations for graduate faculty. The nominations were approved unanimously as follows:

1st motion - Dr. Oliver
2nd motion - Dr. Haley

The next item on the agenda was an approval of program modifications for the Master of Education degree. Dr. Collins made a motion, which was seconded by Dr. McArthur and passed unanimously, to approve the program modifications with the stipulation that the following change is made to the Writing Sample:

Original Proposal

Students must complete a Writing Sample before Admission to Candidacy for the Master of Education Degree. Students who do not attain an adequate score on the Writing Sample must complete ENG 4972, Survival Writing: Writing for Standardized Tests and Interviews. The Writing Sample will consist of a response to a general question and must be either handwritten or typed at a length of one to two pages.

Amendment to the Writing Sample Proposal

Students must complete a Writing Sample before Admission to Candidacy for the master of Education Degree. The Writing Sample will consist of a response to a general question and must be either handwritten or typed at a length of one to two pages. Students who do not attain an adequate score on the Writing Sample must complete ENG 4972, Survival Writing: Writing for Standardized Tests and Interviews, with a grade of "C" or better and then must successfully retake the Writing Sample.

The final item of discussion was "Who’s Who" nominations for graduate students. It was agreed that our student nomination quota of 21 should be filled, and since there had only been a total of 13 nominees submitted, the members of the council would have to submit more at the next meeting. The MT and MBS programs both declined to submit more nominees, so the MBA and MED programs would each have to submit four more students to fill the quota. The committee also discussed that for next year, each nominee should submit a letter listing their academic standing, and community and extra curricular activities they are involved in to their department for review, which would then be brought before the Graduate Council. Since the quota had not been filled at this time, a motion was made by Dr. McArthur to table the discussion until the next meeting when all nominations would be submitted. A second motion was made by Dr. Collins, which passed unanimously. It was also agreed that the "Who’s Who" deadline be extended for three more weeks in order to get all the nominations in.

Since there was no new business to discuss, a motion was made by Dr. Henderson to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Dr. Haley. The meeting adjourned at 4:10 p.m.
