MEMBERS ABSENT: Dr. Stephen Hogan, Dr. Douglas McMillan (Ex Officio)
The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. in the University Center (UC-215) by Dr. Betz, committee chair.
The first item on the agenda was a request by Dr. David Conway to allow the Millers Analogy Test as an alternative admission option for students entering the M.S. in Aerospace Administration program. Dr. Haley and Dr. Gaster spoke to the committee on behalf of Dr. Conway, and informed the members that a minimum score required on the MAT would be 44, which is equivalent to a 3.0 GPA. The minimum GPA requirement for admission to Graduate School is a 2.75, and this would be used as a form of conditional admission for the students. Dr. Gaster called the item to question, and a unanimous vote approved the request.
The next two items of discussion were Graduate Appeals for ****** and ******. ******* was requesting acceptance of graduate hours earned prior to her admission into the M.S. program. She was also requesting a waiver for the 10 year time limitation on those hours since they had been completed in the Spring 1983 semester. The committee discussed *******'s situation, and the item was called to question by Dr. Gaster. The appeal was denied by a vote of 5 to 4. In *******'s appeal, a request had been made to grant a time extension in order to allow courses taken from 1995-1996 to be accepted in his graduate work. The appeal was reviewed, and the item was called to question by Dr. Dixon. The vote passed unanimously to grant the appeal.
The next item for review was a request for a program modification in the M.Ed. Educational Technology program. The request was to remove the program admission requirement stated in the Graduate Catalog as saying "The applicant must be eligible for or hold a standard teaching certificate." The item was called to question by Dr. Gaster, and the vote was unanimously approved. Dr. Betz informed the committee that this requirement was removed from all M.Ed. secondary programs, but was still listed as an admission requirement in the catalog by error, and would be corrected in the new catalog.
The fourth item on the agenda was the review of Nominations to Graduate Faculty. Listed below are the nominees and their status that was granted by the committee:
The committee then reviewed the minutes from the previous Graduate Council meeting A motion was made by Dr. Dixon to approve the minutes, which was seconded by Dr. Hall. The vote passed with one abstention.
Dr. Betz submitted a recommendation to the committee to review as new business. He suggested that the residency requirement of the last 4 graduate hours at SOSU be removed, and that it would be discussed at the next Graduate Coordinators meeting for approval. If the suggestion passed, Dr. Betz would submit a program modification for the Graduate Council to review.
After all business was discussed, a motion was made by Dr. Hall to adjourn, and was seconded by Dr. Dixon. The meeting concluded at 4:10 p.m.
